They even have taken the unprecedented step of closing their press in Flint (which they just opened a few years back), and now are having it printed in Bay City. I have already seen the "new look" Free Press, and I don't like it. It now looks too much like a tabloid.Larry Launstein Jrnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4049692947921974762.post-24594900712466394242009-03-28T11:30:00.000-07:002009-03-28T11:30:00.000-07:00I used to just get the Sunday paper and read the r...I used to just get the Sunday paper and read the rest of the news online/TV/radio the rest of the week. Then I got the Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun delivery rate a little higher than the Sunday paper and no need to actually pick up the paper. (But picking up is better during the summer especially if you travel to another spot on the weekeends). I may cancel the paper soon and just pickup again on Sunday like I used to. (Until the paper is totally cancelled?!):(Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4049692947921974762.post-63047233922134358872009-03-27T20:35:00.000-07:002009-03-27T20:35:00.000-07:00I guess this was inevitable with the growth of the...I guess this was inevitable with the growth of the Internet and all of the info available on it.
I still want a "paper" though. I know I can pick it up on my way to work and that's what I will continue to do but the financial loss is still going to be felt by the home delivery people. Out here in a rural area, the delivery people have this as their job. Now, with home delivery being cut back, so will their income. It wouldn't surprise me if they gave it up since it will barely cover their gas for their routes.
A business has to do whatever it can to be successful, I understand that. I hope what the News and the Freep do keeps them viable.
A printed newspaper is not just important, it's vital.
Paul Sr.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
